A Golden Shining Thing
A Golden Shining Thing is a series of paintings, drawings, and objects that examines the relative metaphoric valuation of certain objects, creatures, and attributes in early modern European folk and fairy tales. Such tales may reflect the shared cultural beliefs and mythos of a community, but can also act as strong disciplinary tools for instilling value systems favored by those in power. A Golden Shining Thing visually takes on specific tales in which women’s opportunities for wealth accumulation correlate with their relative attractiveness and docile behavior. The series was shown in a solo exhibition in 2019 at Hotel Biron in San Francisco.
