Ghost Garden delves into complicated imagined relationships between a cadre of femme protagonists and their nocturnal suburban environs. In these surreal scenes, spectral subjects are engaged in active connection—and sometimes conflict—with plants, animals, the human-built landscape, and environmental phenomena. Mysterious, darkly humorous, and unsettling allegories are at play in these unexpected scenarios that reflect aspects of the contemporary American social and political climate. A specific visual vocabulary threads the exhibition and includes such symbolic motifs as traffic safety cones and spiny cacti. This series was shown in a solo exhibition by the same name at Art Works Downtown in San Rafael, California in 2018.
